About Robin Jack
So I'm 21 and from Northampton in England. I'm back here now after finishing university, but hopefully I'll be moving to London soon. I grew up never having the most advanced system of the time, usually being behind by a couple of years, but, after falling in love with Civ2 on my old pc I saved up 120 English pounds from my 5 pounds a week, and managed to purchase a playstation.
I've been an avid gamer ever since, playing mostly RPGs and platformers initially, then moving on to Guild Wars for a couple of years, and then a brief stint as a Halo fanatic. I've been pretty passionate about most areas of the video game industry, even extending to a brief addiction to Angry Birds, and hopefully that will come through in my writing.
Aside from games and socialising, I really am quite passionate about thinking properly about all the art forms. Douglas Hofstadter's book 'Godel Escher Bach: An Eternal Golden Braid' expressed why in a very neat way. When you have most mathematical problems, you have a reachable solution, or you can test how long it will take you to reach a solution. He sees the defining element of the mathematics of intelligence within the types of problems that may well have a solution, but there is no known test for verifying its existence, or even a way of judging how long it will take. Great art, great games, great books are all made so by the quality of the thought that assesses them - a bit of mindless Halo playing is great a bit of the time, but not all.
